SIBU: EVERLY Hotel Bintulu has become the first hotel in East Malaysia to win the national Best Hotel Excellence Services award in four-star hotel category.

According to a representative of Value Hospitality, Manshor Yusuf, the award was won last year and is a great achievement for the hotel as it is an award given to the hotel offering the best services in that category.

Value Hospitality, established in 1990, is a hotel operator and turnaround specialist currently managing nine hotels in the country, the four-star Everly and Beverly range and three-star Prescott range.

Speaking at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between VH and Times Skill Development Authority for the implementation of human development courses at Everly Hotel here yesterday, he said the judging for the award was done by independent assessors or what was deemed as mystery shoppers from the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism.

Manshor was speaking on behalf of VH Area General Manager, John Augustin.

“Mystery shoppers are assessors who check into hotel unannounced and try out the facilities of the hotel, make complaints and see how they are handled,” he said.

The award, he said also showed that Sarawakians are capable of service excellence in the hotel industry. On the company, VH, he said currently employs over 700 professionals in all properties under its management.

The Group’s expertise also extends to hotel design, construction management and investment advise. He said that being a fully home grown organization, it is currently in the process of expanding overseas with various property owners.

“Towards the end of 2004, catering to the phenomenal growth of internet savvy Malaysians, the Group invested more than RM250,000 to offer free wireless internet access in the common areas of the hotels,” he added.
